Missed my @dappconberlin talk with the latest demo of Gnosis VPN that is being built as a truly (!) decentralized application on top of the @hoprnet mixnet?

Gnosis VPN is about shipping a maximally anonymous VPN that does not rely on any centralised points of failure but feels just like the centralised legacy VPNs that you might use today
If you run a HOPR node, you can try the current PoC already today!

Gnosis VPN is a dapp with a "d" as in "decentralized"
And yes, that means also no indexers (yes, you can actually build that and yes, do follow me for more rants against non-resilient centralized infra!)
While there is still technical work ahead to make this product accessible to non-technical users (your normie friends without a @dappnode at home!) the performance is already impressive!
I was able to live stream my own talk on stage through the VPN (via 3 HOPR nodes) 💪🤓
Now what is next?
We're building this project for (and got funded by) @GnosisDAO but need a company to offer the product (app stores, initial exit node infrastructure, etc)
So... how do you square a DAO and a company...?
We worked on a corporate governance setup where the Gnosis community is both fully in control and has full ownership.
And here we need a Gnosis DAO delegate to get involved, I hope to see some volunteers for that in the next days and weeks:
In a way, this is a riff on our our early work towards a Decentralized Autonomous Association with @QYuQianchen back in 2019 (Q is leading smart contract developments at HOPR today)
So much happened at the techno-legal intersection!
Finally, luckily, the ecosystem got much more concerned about conflicts of interests, so let's get the incentive alignment clear here:
- Gnosis DAO invested in HOPR and is a major $HOPR token holder
- Revenue of Gnosis VPN will flow towards the $HOPR token and HOPR node runners
- HOPR and Gnosis VPN are products on Gnosis Chain and thus contribute to Gnosis Chain revenue (and every HOPR node and every Gnosis VPN client is a @safe!)
- The product gets developed for Gnosis DAO which holds all VPN-related assets
I think this is literally as clean as it can be, but happy to hear about issues and improvements!
