What is ZEC (ZEC)?

Zcash is a decentralized, open-source cryptocurrency designed to ensure that transactions remain anonymous and cannot be monitored. The privacy-focused payment system gives users complete control over their data and ensures the protection of their privacy.


Zcash was initially released in 2016 and was created as a fork in the Bitcoin blockchain. Unlike most cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), transaction data such as the sending and receiving addresses and amounts are not revealed in Zcash transactions.


The network does this by using a variation of zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs), called zk-SNARKs, that enables sensitive transaction information to be encrypted. Therefore, transactions can be verified without having personal data divulged.
